What is ground reinforcement mesh used for?

Ground reinforcement mesh and grids are installed in grass or gravel surfaces to distribute load and prevent rutting. Common applications include overflow car parks on grass, event access routes, grass airstrip taxiways, wheelchair accessible garden paths and caravan pitches.

What vehicle load can ground reinforcement panels support?

Standard grass reinforcement grids support 100-250 tonnes per square metre, equivalent to car and light van traffic. Heavy-duty versions rated to 350-500 tonnes/m² are available for HGV access. Performance depends on correct installation over a prepared, compacted sub-base.

How is ground reinforcement installed?

Excavate 150-200mm and install a compacted Type 1 aggregate sub-base. Lay a geotextile membrane over the sub-base. Place reinforcement panels and interlock. Fill cells with topsoil and seed for grass applications, or gravel for gravel surfaces.

What is the difference between grass and gravel reinforcement grids?

Grass reinforcement grids have large open cells (40-60% open area) to allow grass growth — they are green to blend in. Gravel reinforcement grids have smaller cells to contain gravel and prevent migration — typically black or grey.

Are ground reinforcement grids UV resistant?

Yes, our ground reinforcement panels are manufactured from recycled HDPE with UV stabiliser additives, rated for outdoor use with a minimum 20-year service life. HDPE is unaffected by freeze-thaw cycles and resistant to fuel spillage and de-icing salts.
