What aluminium grades do you supply?

We supply 6082 T6 (high strength structural alloy), 5083 (marine grade, excellent corrosion resistance), 6063 T6 (excellent surface finish for architectural extrusions) and 2011 T3 (excellent machinability for turned parts). We also supply commercially pure 1050/1060 for electrical and food applications.

What is the difference between mild steel and structural steel?

Mild steel (S235 grade) has a yield strength of 235 N/mm². Structural steel grades S275 and S355 have higher yield strengths allowing smaller section sizes for the same load. S355 is the standard structural grade for UK steel-frame buildings and bridges.

Can steel and aluminium sections be cut to length?

Yes, all our steel and aluminium sections are available cut to your required length using bandsaw and cold saw to tolerances of ±1mm. Minimum cut lengths vary by section size. Contact us with your cut list for a quotation.

What is the weight of steel per metre?

Steel weighs approximately 7,850 kg/m³. Common sections: 25x25x3mm angle = 1.12 kg/m; 50x50x5mm angle = 3.77 kg/m; 50x50x3mm SHS = 4.39 kg/m; 100x100x5mm SHS = 15.0 kg/m.

What is the difference between hot-rolled and cold-finished steel?

Hot-rolled steel is produced at high temperature with looser tolerances and a scaled surface. Cold-finished steel is processed at room temperature to tighter tolerances with a brighter, smoother surface — preferred for precision machined parts and applications where close tolerances matter.
