What is the difference between a directional brake and a total brake?

A directional brake locks only the swivel rotation of the castor, allowing the wheel to continue rolling in a straight line. This is ideal for maintaining controlled direction during movement. A total brake locks both the swivel and the wheel rotation completely, preventing all movement. Directional brakes are preferred when you need to guide equipment along a fixed path while still being able to push or pull it.

Can this castor be used on uneven or outdoor surfaces?

This castor is designed primarily for indoor use on smooth, level surfaces such as concrete, tile, or sealed flooring. The 80mm wheel diameter and rubber tread provide effective performance on even surfaces but may struggle with significant bumps, cracks, or rough outdoor terrain. For outdoor or uneven surface applications, larger diameter wheels with pneumatic or semi-pneumatic treads are recommended.

How do I install this top plate castor?

Installation requires four bolts or screws (not included) that fit through the 10mm diameter holes in the top plate. Position the castor at the desired location, ensuring the plate hole centres align with your mounting surface (60mm or 80mm width spacing, 75mm length spacing). Secure with appropriate fasteners, ensuring the plate sits flush and all bolts are tightened evenly to distribute load correctly. Always verify the mounting surface can support the intended load.

What is the maximum weight I can safely load on equipment using these castors?

Each castor has a load capacity of 60kg. When using four castors, the maximum recommended load is 180kg (not 240kg) due to uneven weight distribution during movement and turning. Always calculate total equipment weight including the item being transported, and ensure the load is distributed as evenly as possible across all castors. For safety, it's advisable to operate below maximum capacity, particularly if the equipment will be moved frequently or over thresholds.
